Performance Assessment (Final Project/Assessment)
Performance Task 1 - Interpretive 

The teacher will show different objects to the students to make them understand the numbers orally and visually. The Interpretive activity can also be used to assess the students' listening comprehension and written comprehension skills.

Performance Task 2 - Presentational 

Activities and games designed to evaluate comprehension. Objects/realia like traditional India items like spices, handicrafts etc can be used to quiz students upon their understanding of the numbers.

Performance Task 3 - Interpersonal 

Activities,including flash cards,designed to evaluate students' comprehension can be used to quiz students by dividing them into small groups.

Final Project Instructions 

The rubric will be used to generate the points scored by the students. The results will then be used to enhance or strengthen the students' and the teacher's performance.

Functions, Structures, Vocabulary and Culture
Functions 

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able count in Hindi and also identify the numbers visually. They would be able to understand questions and instructions aimed at quizzing them. They would be able to frame their responses and understand each other's response as well. They can also use the numbers learnt in real life context by learning simple mathematical computations like addition and subtraction.

Structures 

Basic Mathematical structures will be taught. The numbers taught, upon practice, can be used to compute and calculate.

Activities
Opening Activities / Setting the Stage 

Song and Dance routine set to the popular Hindi song "Ek do teen char paanch"

Main Activities - Comprehensible Input 

1. Teaching the concept of numbers from 1 through 10 with the help of power point presentation and various objects
The main activity incorporates the 'Connection' component into the lesson. The connection is between Math and the target language which is Hindi. (This activity incorporates 2 C's of Communication- Presentational Communicationand Interpretive Communication)
2. Teaching the concept of addition and subtraction through gestures, power point presentation and showing objects that have been placed in the classroom. Using the universal signs of + and - the teacher teaches simple addition and subtraction.
This activity also incorporates the 'Connection' component into the lesson. The connection is between simple mathematical computations and the target language which is Hindi.
3. Simple question tags like "What comes before/after the number 1/2/3/4/5 etc ?" Or " What will be the sum of 1+ 2/difference between 5-2 equals?". The students will also learn to answer this question in simple sentences. For example, "1 comes before 2/5 comes after 4" or "The sum of 1+2 equals 3/the difference between 5-2 equals 3"

Main Activities - Guided Practice 

1. There will be repetition to reinforce the concept of numbers, simple addition and subtraction
Different objects and flash cards will be used for practice

2. Through presentational communication the teacher will reinforce the concept of counting and simple calculations through gestures. The teacher will ask simple questions to the students and assist them to give answers initially. The objective will be achieved when the students will be able to give responses on their own.

Main Activities - Independent Practice 

1. Flash Cards will be used for this purpose. The students will do the activity in pairs. They will hide the cards and ask their partners to take out a card and tell the number on that card. (Interpersonal Activity)

2. The students will be assigned different numbers (they will have number tags on them.) They will be made to stand in a circle. The teacher will call out any number and throw the ball up in the air and the student with the respective number will catch the ball.The game will be then carried forward by the students and they will call out any number and pass the ball. This will act as an evidence for the teacher to know if the students have understood and learned the numbers. This is an oral formative assessment too.

3. After the concept of addition and subtraction is discussed, the students will ask each other questions and answer in pairs.(Interpersonal Activity)
For example: What is 1+2?
1+2 equals 3.

Closure 

Closure is with an oral formative assessment wherein the concept of numbers and simple addition and subtraction will be combined. For example: What is the sum of the number which comes after 4 and the number which comes before 3?
The student will answer after correlating the question to the concepts taught. 5+2=7
(In this activity the students will not only identify the numbers but also carry out simple addition)

Additional Activities or Standards Addressed 

Role Play: Students can be invited to perform in a scene which mimics daily life. One can be the store clerk who needs to compute basic calculations, two others can be the customers. The customers would then pretend to shop for fruits. The first customer will choose to buy oranges and ask how much would four oranges cost, given that they are 2 cents each. The clerk will calculate: 2+2+2+2=8 cents. The second customer will choose to buy 4 mangos and the clerk will tell the customer since they cost 2 cents each, the total will be 8 cents. The customer then pays a dime, so the clerk will calculate the difference : 10-8=2 cents and give back 2 cents to the shopper.

In conclusion, at the end of the presentation:
The students will be able to identify numbers 1 to 10

The students will be able to say numbers 1 to 10 in Hindi

The students will be able to compute simple addition and subtraction equations

The students will be able to understand questions asked by the teacher
